At its June 2017 meeting, the Daily Allocation Working Group (DAWG) discussed possible alternatives to the status quo D+1 algorithm. These alternative daily allocation options sought to assess:

  • the impact on accuracy of an increase in the amount of telemetry data available for the daily D+1 runs
  • the tradeoff between a more simple, but potentially more timely and more reliable, market share allocation versus a model that incorporates available telemetry data
  • the impact on D+1 of the proposal by First Gas to move away from a pool-based balancing regime to a whole-of-system balancing regime along with the introduction of daily nominated capacity at a delivery point or delivery zone level

Gas Industry Co undertook to analyse the alternative daily allocation options using 12 months of data (the 2016 calendar year) and report back to the DAWG. The results of the analysis are summarised in the PowerPoint report available below; each shipper was provided with its individual daily allocation results under each option.
