Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) is used in around 300,000 homes and businesses in the North and South Islands.

April update: This new data page provides information on LPG.

LPG - Supply & Demand

New Zealand is both an exporter and importer of LPG.

Data is sourced from MBIE. MBIE's publicly available Oil Stats webpage can be found here.

LPG Export figures are presented as negative values from the perspective of New Zealand's LPG supply.

LPG Consumption and LPG Indigenous Production are presented as 12-month rolling averages to remove seasonality in the data.

This data is for 45 kg LPG connections only. Bulk LPG connections at industrial facilities and reticulated gas customers are excluded in these figures.

NB: Prior to January 2022, customer numbers only captured wholesaler direct customers. From January 2022, wholesalers began reporting 45 kg on-sales from retailers and franchisees, as well as direct customers, to provide a more accurate picture of the 45 kg market. From June 2022 on, all 45 kg customers are included in the customer number data.
