Current regulations
On 21 January 2010, the CCM Regulations came into force. They were reviewed following an extended supply disruption on the Maui Pipeline in 2011. Gas Governance (Critical Contingency Management) Regulations 2008
On 1 March 2014, amendments strengthening and clarifying aspects of the regulatory arrangements took effect.
Our work in Downstream Reconciliation involves reconciling volumes of gas leaving the high pressure transmission system with volumes consumed by end-users, and appropriately attributing those volumes, plus any unaccounted-for-gas (UFG), to retailers.
Recommendation to the Minister for Energy - Approved
The Minister for Energy has approved the recommendation for amendments to gas governance arrangements, sent to him in November 2024.
In April 2018, the Government appointed an advisory panel to investigate whether the current electricity market delivers “efficient, fair and equitable prices” to customers. The Electricity Price Review panel issued its final report in May 2019.
The Gas Distribution Contracts Oversight Scheme is a voluntary, industry-agreed scheme which assesses standard gas distribution service agreements against a set of principles.
GIEPs specify and standardise the format for exchanging information between gas industry participants, streamlining exchange processes and ensuring consistency and compatibility with industry agreed standards.
Gas users require a safe, reliable, fit-for-purpose product. Gas Industry Co's Gas Quality work aims to ensure that industry arrangements will meet that need and so promote a confident and efficient gas market.
We regularly publish gas supply and demand studies to provide stakeholders with information that may be useful for making decisions.
