Consultation

The purpose of this consultation paper was to present Gas Industry Co's assessment of a macro review of the specification for reticulated natural gas in New Zealand (NZS 5442:1999). That review did not identify any major technical issues that suggest there is a need to reassess the appropriateness of NZS 5442:1999. Gas Industry Co invited submissions from stakeholders as to whether they agree with the Gas Industry Co assessment or whether there are additional factors that need to be taken into account.

Recommendation

This paper presents Gas Industry Co's recommendations relating to the gas standard for reticulated natural gas in New Zealand. The recommendations consider (a) the limits defining NZS 5442:1999 and (b) the current arrangements to enforce the gas specification. These recommendations are the culmination of a review undertaken by an independent consultancy firm and rigorous consultation process by Gas Industry Co. Core to the recommendation is the conclusion that the current limits on the gas specification do not need to change.
