As a trusted advisor to industry and government, we provide information about the gas industry and use our specialist expertise to help stakeholders navigate change. Examples of this include our Supply and Demand studies, contribution to government energy policy, and engagement with industry about governance processes.
Each year we present the Minister with a Statement of Intent, which details our work programme developed in consultation with industry, and the Levy Recommendation to fund our operations.
We report to the Minister quarterly and annually, and more often on specific workstreams as required.

The Gas Act provides for the Gas Industry Co and the Commerce Commission to work together in relation to the gas transmission and distribution sector. Gas Industry Co’s role focuses on open access to pipelines, and the Commerce Commission has a complementary role in relation to economic regulation of those assets. The two agencies work together in any areas that overlap.
We consult with Industry when we develop our annual work programme and levy, to develop or update recommendations, and on other matters of importance.
