Gas Industry Co is the industry body that works alongside industry and government to co-regulate gas. We oversee gas governance, facilitate gas markets and provide trusted advice through the energy transition.

Our work

We provide trusted advice, support, and guidance to the gas and wider energy sector. Our work in gas governance and statutory accountability enables industry self-regulation that is efficient, low cost and effective.

Our influence

We use our specialist expertise to help stakeholders navigate change and provide advice to the Minister for Energy.

Governance

Gas Industry Co is a limited liability company registered under the Companies Act 1993 and is owned by industry participant shareholders. The company was approved as the industry body under Part 4A of the Gas Act 1992 on 22 December 2004 by the Gas (Approval of Industry Body) Order 2004.

Board

We have a board comprising seven non-executive directors, four of whom (including the Chair) are independent of the gas industry.

Leadership Team

Our leadership team comprises our Chief Executive, Andrew Knight, and General Manager - Corporate Services, Susan Dunne.

Funding

We have three sources of funding: market fees, the industry levy and annual shareholders' fees.

Shareholders

Our shareholders represent sectors across the gas industry - production, transmission, distribution, wholesale, retail and consumers.

Our strategy

Our strategy includes our core theme of “facilitating the role of gas in New Zealand’s energy future” as can be seen in the diagram below.
