Designations can provide a measure of priority to gas consumers who satisfy certain criteria.

Those applying for this designation must use more than 2TJ/annum and provide 1 or more of the following services:

  1. Mortuary Services
  2. Cremation of human remains
  3. Treatment of biohazards to make them safe for disposal
  4. Processing and supply of municipal drinking water
  5. Treatment and processing of municipal sewage
  6. Police, fire, and other emergency services

As stated in Regulation 46(H)(1) of the CCM Regulations, Gas Industry Co may appoint a technical expert to assist in assessing an application for an Essential Services designation and in Regulation 46(H)(7) …The applicant must pay Gas Industry the costs of the technical expert in preparing the report.
